This week was really interesting and intense, trying to find information and understand all the different legalities and tax situation for starting an online business in California, specifically Los Angeles County. What I learned was that online business and the tax situation is a little difficult to totally understand. I think since this territory hasn't been completely explored or states are still trying to figure out the laws themselves, it was interesting. I think from what I have gathered, you should just collect tax on all the goods you sell, physical and digital, from every state. Another thing I found really interesting was that in California for a doing business as or fictitious business name, I would have to file paperwork and have an ad run in the newspaper for 4 consecutive weeks with the business name. Then get an affidavit from the newspaper and turn that it. It is much easier to create a business using your surname, which is the requirement to not have to file for a DBA, which I chose to do. I think it is really interesting to read on the discussion board all the different requirements from the different states. It is interesting to see how it all varies. I definitely see the value in really good research.
